Nokia has thrown in the enterprise mobile e-mail towel and instead will work with Microsoft and Cisco to combine the mobile company's devices and applications with mobile software from Microsoft and Cisco, says Nokia. Nokia also says it is in the advanced stages of talks for the potential sale of its security appliances business to a financial investor. The company said the moves would enable it to focus on consumer Internet services.
In February 2007, Cisco and Nokia announced the Nokia Eseries dual-mode smart phones that can operate on a Cisco enterprise VoIP infrastructure and a public GSM network. Last April, the two companies claimed that more than 100 customers are using the combined mobile service. Cisco also deployed the smart phones to its sales organization in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific, while Nokia has implemented a Cisco unified wireless network in its offices, labs, and manufacturing sites.
